Reflection: 6/08/10- Editing my Footage

2 days ago I had taken home a school laptop to finish my edit of my film. I had a few difficulties working out how to use Final cut because I'm quiet use to using iMovie, so I had to figured out different things with the program and to my great success I worked out and managed how to use this program after a nights work.

The difficulties that I had with the program lay within playing the clips. A message kept popping up saying something like, "It is slow because of hard-drive doesn't have enough memory and it's slow because..." of something. They also said something about RT which I have no idea what that means...
I also had difficulties figuring out how to crop the footage but in the end I managed how to do it but I took quiet a while to do it. Also I tried putting in the transitions in because you have to do this strange thing by adding in the next footage and then you had to click in the middle of both clips and than do to the transition button and choose your transition. I know that doesn't sound too hard but it is when you never used it for a long period of time. But overall using the program wasn't so hard, but there were some pot holes that I had trouble with but everything is almost done and all I need to do is add titles and more transitions...

I emailed Mr Andrews about the problems I had with the message popping up and I thought that I would be there for the next lesson but unfortunately I had to leave early because I was running a temp. So I haven't finished my editing (just yet) and I missed our last CM lesson which I really need help with my editing. So now I'm screwed!
1. I don't have a computer to finish off my editing
2. Don't have Mr Andrews help
3. It's due on Monday!!!

Reflections: 3/08/10

Today was the day when we had to make a To Do List of what we needed to do and what we've done. So far my group has done a far amount of work done, but we still need to finish off the EDL.
Today I was sorting out and covert my footage that I wanted in MY edit film. This didn't take a long time because I knew all ready what I wanted to do because it was similar with the actually rough edit we did as a group, but there are scenes that are added in that we filmed after we showed our rough edit to the class.
I had a few problems today. Firstly I had problems with working out how to use Final Cut Pro, because I'm really use to using iMovie but as the rest of my group and Mr Andrews had mentioned it would actually better if I choose to edit my film in Final Cut Pro (to my dismay). But he always mentioned that it would be better quality so I had to change once he said 'BETTER'.
So today I was just converting and picking throw the footage I wanted and having few bumps in the way as well...

To Do List:

PLANNING:

1. Working as a group on a Rough Edit
2. Shooting additional footage
3. Undertaking weekly reflections

2. Convert footage
3. Import, organize footage using Final Cut
4. Assemble your sequence

Term 3: Reflection/ Evaluation

Reflection/ Evaluation:

1. Describe any problems or difficulties you encountered during the filming of your project

2. Describe any skills, techniques or tricks you have discovered during the project

3. Are you satisfied with your film process so far? How could you improve this?

4. Have you managed your time effectively?

5. If you could start again what would you do differently?

ALL OF THIS WORK MUST BE COMPLETED BY MONDAY

1. We have encountered few problems and hiccups during the post-production and during film. We have caused a disturbance with our CM group making this difficult for us to work as a team. This has made some members of the group uneasy about this awkward situation, but we are trying to sort this matter out.
This disturbance hasn’t disturbed the process of filming, but has disturbed the interruption of making decisions together as a group and figuring out the problems with our film.
This has only been happening for a few weeks and everyone in the group has been doing their own editing and no one has really made any communication about what scenes or wither we want to redo some sequences. But again the communication isn’t that brilliant through out the group.

2. The skills and the techniques that I’ve learnt are different from the way the camera is being used in film and how to film a movie, with the different techniques of angles, shots and planning. The pre-production stage was very interesting in knowing how he ‘real’ world plans each movie in depth to how they sort everything out before they start film. I suppose I’ve learnt a lot from not really sticking to how the result in your head is going to be when you start shooting because there can be a few alterations through a crew/team, even though it’s your story that’s being made.

3. I am proud of what we’ve done in the filming process so far. We have done most things as we discussed through pre-production, but there was a few pot holes through shooting as these were problems that couldn’t be solved through the shooting such as the weather, people in the of shooting and the lighting. But overall the filming process that we have achieved conducted through out the day.
We can’t improve on the problems we had because they are natural incidences that couldn’t be solved and we can’t control the weather or the problems with the people in the way, but we had some slight issues with the lighting. The way we’ve could’ve solved it was to try out few shots with using different lighting, but as we had a limited amount of time through out the day we didn’t take the time to do that. As we know now, if we could fix this problem then we would re-shoot the takes and find the solution to the problem.

4. I believe we have managed our time very effectively, considering one of teammates couldn’t make it to both shooting days due to other commitments. Our time management was very productive due to early shooting before our fellow classmates because we were excited to start the filming and we couldn’t decide what day we should start shooting. This decision for us to start early made us ahead of our classmates, having more time to re-shoot takes and having more time and letting our teacher see what needed improving through out our film.

5. As I mentioned this last term, if I had the choose in starting this over again I would differently change the story to someone else’s story so we wouldn’t be able to do mine. Other than that in the way we were filming I believe that we should’ve slowed our shooting process done because we were all over the place and we didn’t everything so fast. For the scenes I would have changed the family scenes e.g. kitchen and end. Also the scenes with Letty and Susie in it and finally the plot were Susie gets beat in up; I would have changed the beating up scene from the park to a different location. This would have made the idea to the film different from the concept of using the inspiration of the film.

Reflection

In the past few lessons that we had, we haven't been doing much because Mr. Andrews had told us to redo some scenes. This is putting us back because we cannot edit or do anything to change it because of those scenes that we need to redo. We have done all of the lists that we need to do for planning our film. We have created a script, created a shot list for the film and we have talked about what we need to change once we arrive to our film day. Right now we aren't doing anything towards our film. This is a great disadvantage towards our time during the lesson.

To be honest, right now everyone is over CM because we are sick of waiting to film! I am so over this... in a way it's getting boring!
