This weekend is a long weekend due to the Gold Coast Show, which I'm not interested in going because I have 5 assignments due these weeks coming up.
All day I have been doing my soundtrack for my film, which I have to say is all most finished, except for some few bits and pieces that need to be finished. I had a small problem with the soundtrack, which involves a 'song' from my iTunes and I'm not quiet sure if I am aloud to use it or not because with the genre of my film the song fits really well with the film.
First thing I did today was correct some of my loops, which sounded really off because it wasn't blinding in with the footage or other loops that I had chosen. I had a fun day looking through, all most every single loop that is used in GarageBand because I need to find the perfect loop to blind with Susie running to the Park because mostly every loop is happy and joyful, but I need something that was dark and deep and there were some that had the sound that I wanted but I had to mix other loops to blind in with that loop. Then I had to find if it was a the right key, tempo and beats. I had to do this because if you mix loops in together than the soundtrack will sound really off and strange and not in beat with each other. So that took mostly half the day to do it, but eventually I found the loops that I was looking for. The next scene was the beating up scene where I had to find something that was deep, dark, almost scary in away and a fast tempo beat sound. This was quiet easy (in away) because there was a lot of fast tempo sounds, but there wasn't too many deep and dark sounds that matched. For these two scenes I used various amount of instruments such as electronic instruments, drums and piano. I used the piano sound a lot and sometimes (I thought) used it too much with some footage. With using the piano loop a lot it made the film sound like it was a 'period' film or some kind of classical genre... which considering that it's like a mystery or a drama, it wouldn't have too many classical instruments in it... but in some genres with action, mystery and adventure, the classical instruments (e.g. string instruments and an orchestra) are used in their soundtracks. So as you might have noticed I've been doing this all day and I did it with other scenes as well.
I had a sticky spot and I didn't know what to do because I couldn't really bothered finding loops to match the footage so I went to the end, where I knew what I was doing. This is the song idea (which I don't know whither I'm a loud to do it or not) that I had thought of. I used the song by Coldplay: The Scientist. I love this song, because it has a very slow tempo and it's a very sad song of love, and loss and all sorts of things (I listen to this song when I'm in a down stage of my life D:) I choose this song because (as I said) it is a sad song about love and loss (I think)... but it blinded so well with the ending of the film. I can't parts of the song out because as this song goes for 5:11 and that's like how long my film is. So I can't the beginning and the end and blind them both together. I had to cut some parts in the beginning of the end so it would blind while with the beginning of the ending. So my ending sounds great, but all I need to do is wait for Mr Andrews to email me back saying whither or not I can use songs in my soundtrack... but I'm betting the answer would be NO because it's copyrighting the song if you don't ask the artist or the writers who played, sang or anyone who was involved with the song... so I'm guessing Mr Andrews emailing my back saying NO than.... That's all right (well there's nothing I can do or Mr A can do so it had to be all right), but I have to have a 2nd option in finding how to end my film... so I have to think about that.
All I need to do with my group is fix the recording of some dialogue. Because there are some dialogue that you can't hear or understand because of interruptions of the wind, boats, planes, random swearing at the beginning of the footage or random things happening. All these things I muted in my film because we really don't want these interruptions in our film... There are a lot of dialogue we need to record because on the 2nd day we filmed it was very windy and you couldn't hear anyone from outside.
I guess that doing CM soundtrack is done and I can cross it off my list, with doing reflections and putting extra tasks on my blog as well. For crossing off fewer tasks to do, the day when this film is due is coming to a close. :( This is the time when I start to cry because next year (out of my friends) I'm the only one doing CM and I don't know who's class I'll be in and I won't be with my friends in any of the classes next year so CM class will be so different without them and I'm going to miss that.... Someone just punched a hole through my heart just then. Every breathe and every memory that I hold from this year will be taken away and be put into a box labelled "Thousand Memories for Thousand Years Ago". This time next year, this moment will be just a blur and I won't even care about any of these because this is what the future is and in the future we don't give a crap about anything in the past because we live for the future....

Reflection: 26/08/10
You know what the funniest thing about doing our reflections each day is that that I only started a couple of weeks ago and I only do it out of boredom one day, but than yesterday came I was pleased that I had done it because then I would be with the rest of the class who haven't done much on their blogs. So now I'm just doing it because Mr Andrews said so and that it'll go to our marks at the end of the semester (I hope)!!
Today was a quiet and fun lesson. As we did our own thing and talking about random things, I carried on from where I left off by continuing from the kitchen scene to Susie running to the park. Now I'm in a puddle and I'm deeply stuck in the puddle!! This is because I can't find the perfect loop to describe Susie running away to her sanctuary of the park... Through all the loops and all the music I have listen to GarageBand is all ready driving me insane through finding this LOOP!! To talk about Shelby and Olivia (who were the people that I was seating, and because Katie was off doing scientific stuff they are the ones that were beside me), I haven't really heard what their soundtrack is because we have been mainly focusing on ours. But by Shelby's, I have listen to her ending which is quiet good with having a very depressing song to be played at the end of the film which makes it really good (I think). I haven't heard Olivia's yet so I can't judge or say anything... yet. Everyone is doing there own thing and me... well I'm having trouble (as you know). I told Mr Andrews about my dilemma, and he said that it would take a long time to find the right loop but it take time. So I guess all I need to do is listen and wait for the magical loop appears. :D
Right now I just looked at the task sheet and I have written down what I need to do. I have looked at Shelby's and Katie's blog and I have noticed that they have something that I didn't have on my blog and I'm going to put it onto my blog so that it shows that we did it as a group and that we have done the task. There were some tasks that I wasn't really sure about because I remember doing it but when I looked at my blog, it seems that I didn't put it up but gave it to Katie or someone and forgot to add it on. So all I need do to is do the things I need to do and all is well, except my worries about doing GarageBand and finding the right loops... So when I'm next on to GarageBand, which maybe tomorrow, I'll tell you how things are going and hopefully I will achieve lots more during the long weekend.... I hope :S
TO DO LIST:
1. Put up the Production Schedule
2. Put up the Props and Costume List
3. To do voice over's of the characters... e.g. Having Katie's voice and my voice.... :P

Reflections: 25/08/10
Now I don't know what to say... This is going to be so awkward... :S At least I did something right for a change, well like I do anything wrong though... maybe not printing out the task sheet like Mr Andrews told us do to for homework. Like it's that hard to just print a couple of sheets off, seriously!! How can I forget to do that!! I was was panicking this morning because I asked Shelby to do it but the computers were so SLOW (as usual) and the bell rang so we just left it. When I came to class I didn't know whither Mr A would be mad at me for forgetting to print them off or not... so I was considering on telling a white lie but then I thought that lies don't make problems better they just make a situation worse so I told him that I don't have it but I do have it on my USB. Surprisingly enough he didn't do much... or maybe he did, I was not watching him do anything...
So the start of the lesson was pretty agonising... well not that agonising I was just panicking. Mr Andrews started off telling us that we need to take out our homework. So for me having no homework I had to take one of Shelby's task sheets and pretend it was mine so I wouldn't get in trouble. But he didn't notice that I didn't have mine, until he called one of us up to show him our blogs. This was the whole class and in alphabetical order so I was third of the mark... You know I didn't know what to expect because I was more worried about getting in trouble for not printing off the sheets but Mr Andrews was pretty cool. I went up to... My gosh this is so embarrassing!! Well anyways I went up to him and I showed him my blogs and he told me that I must be doing something wrong. (This is only in a sarcastic way... but at first I believed him that I was really doing something wrong... :S). Then he mentioned that I was the only (or so) one do be doing reflections for a whole week or so. I didn't know what to say because what do you say when someone says that and then says that they knew all ready that you've been doing the reflections plus that they are reading them as well... so there is not comment or reply to that remark.
While Mr Andrews was asking students to talk to him about their blogs, I carried on with doing my work on GarageBand. I didn't get much down because I was looking through the loops to find the perfect fit for the footage. The scenes that I was doing was where Susie is in the kitchen with her mum talking about going to this party or not. I was looking through these different loops and I couldn't find a rhythm or anything to fit in but then I found something that was similar to what I was looking for or it just blinded well with the footage. I believe for me is finding the right loop to match with the footage because you can't have a random loop and place it there because that'll sound really strange. You have to blind everything in together and not let the ending of the loop end really strange. After you found the base of the texture you have to add layers, which I had fun deleting and adding to the base because I thought that it would blind well but as the conclusion was I had just left it as it was with just the base of the texture. By the end of the lesson I had only put 1 loop in the footage and looked through lots of loops. The bad thing about having these loops is that none of them are the right loop for what I have in mind. Maybe I'm really thinking as a composer by just creating a rhythm in my head and finding a similar rhythm through the loops. This possibility isn't that possible because these loops are created for us and we can't add our own rhythm to this program.
So far I am sort of happy with my progress because the progress of creating a soundtrack is taking a very long time but as we have the long weekend I'll focus on it during the weekend.

1. See what my other group have on their blogs

Reflection: 24/08/10
Great way to start the lesson, but I'm quiet sure that wasn't me involved... in away... I'm sure...
Okay today when coming into the lesson Mr Andrews gave us a talk about people who haven't handed in their edited film, people who are far behind in their reflections and people who aren't putting in 100% into their work, which reminds me that I have to print something off which Mr Andrews had told us that it needs to be printed before next lesson so I better do that...
Today we were just doing our soundtracks for our movie. Today really I had just started doing mine because in previous lessons I was just seeing what the sounds where and blinding in different styles of music with each other and not really focusing on how to blind the soundtrack with the film. So as you can say that I was just doing a test trail which I have to say sounds quiet good except for the ending... :S
I have only started the beginning to my film because I didn't know how to start off. I decided on having the beginning as really happy and really joyful at the beginning because in the beginning it's happy but as the story moves on it starts to become sad and the music well I haven't thought about that too much. Mr Andrews has shown us how to change to tone of sound of each loop and the sound of the dialogue which is good because I was actually wondering how you change the volume. So he showed us that and now we need to play around to see what needs to have a decrescendo and what needs to have crescendos in the soundtrack. Okay okay I might be wrong in away, saying that JamTrax was more enjoyable easier... but GarageBand is quiet fun and it's enjoyable like JamTrax... :D

Reflection: 17/08/10
Today was an easier day of work because today Mr Andrews showed us how to create our soundtrack on GarageBand, which I have to say was really cool. It was like doing JamTrax in year 7 (which was a little bit better because there were so many better loops than the ones that are GarageBand). But anyways GarageBand is still pretty awesome!!
He showed us how to created loops together and how they would blend well in together with having the same tempo and key signature. I tried a piece just as a trail run through and it sounds really COOL but we (as a crew) have to choose what style of music we have to create and do a 'Sound Design Template' which is like our EDL that we recently did.
Today I have my edited film ready to go and all I need to do is hand it over to Mr Andrews for him to mark because today my hard-drive was on my 'Big Hard-drive' which is really annoying because I have to seat in the corner with the fire hydrogen, but luckily my friends have accepted to seat with me in my little corner so I wouldn't be alone!! Which I'm happy about!! :D LoL!!
So I'm in a corner with my 'Big Hard-drive' and Mr Andrews has to bring in his laptop just for my purpose... which I feel a little guilty because I could put it on my 'Smaller Hard-drive' but it takes FOREVER to download everything and now we are doing the soundtrack on GarageBand so I think I have to bring my 'Big Hard-drive' in ever lesson which I rather not because my whole life is on this 'Big Hard-drive' like my movies, songs, photos and other stuff....
So we are on schedule and now we have to wait for tomorrow and who knows what tomorrow will bring... :D

Reflection: 16/08/10- Converting film and Having Issues...
Today was a very... cramped lesson. All righty then it wasn't that cramped but I was seating in a corner and it felt cramped!!! LoL!
Today we had to convert our edited film to QuickTime and hand it to Mr Andrews, which for me I didn't get to do because the downloading part took forever!! But I did get it downloaded this afternoon which I'm happy about because now I don't have to do it in class and waste time. I made a few changes through the end of the film (which is why the film was slow in downloading) which looks really good now. I took (by her permission) an idea that looked all right, because the way I had it originally I didn't like it because the dialogue and the view was really strange so I changed it and now it looks better than before.
The scene that I added in was the very originally scene that we had first shot and we took it out because some of the crew didn't like it, which is including me... but as I started watching all our other footage and I believed there was other footage worse than the last scene.
I converted the film this afternoon and I watched it just a few hours ago and I realised something. I realised that some of the transitions are a little bit strange like when Susie's mother and Susie are in the kitchen talking about wither Susie should go to the party scene is edited, I noticed that the transitions are very strange and they cut off and you see this black screen which I don't know if it's me who did the editing wrong or wither it's the program or something, but I don't know. I'm going to show this 'issue' to Mr Andrews tomorrow and see what I can do to fix it...
My film is edited and it's also converted which I'm happy about. But there are still few issues that still need fixing, but anyways I'm sill happy with my outcome, except the hand in of the film was suppose to be due in last Monday but I guess most of the class (which is including me as well) didn't get to finish their edited and finished it during last week or during the weekend (which was my again) so now I'm hoping that I can hand it in by tomorrow and praying that everything will be ALL RIGHT!!!
Reflection: 14/08/10- FINISHED MY EDITING!!
I HAVE FINISHED MY EDIT!!! I'm so happy!! Last night I have just finished my edit and it looks brilliant in any ways possible! Now all I need to do is hand it in and when that is done Mr Andrews will talk to us about using GarageBand!
So we're nearly half way down or maybe less!! So this is really good news!! Just to let everyone know that I'm done with my edit and all we need to do is the MUSIC, which is my favourite part!!

Reflection: 13/08/10
Today is Friday the 13 and all is well here at the year 10 Creative Media classroom!!
I have learnt new different techniques of the program Final Cut Pro and how these different techniques are used with helping enhance my edit. I have also found out new discoveries about why my edit has been SO SLOW! But I guess Mr Andrews had mentioned it but now I'm double checking if the problem he had suggested. An exciting experience happened today, well... I'm being dramatic, it wasn't that exciting experience it was just a joy to do it. I guess you want to know what this exciting experience was? Well today one of my team mates showed us her version of the film and it was VERY GOOD!! I was like WOW and man I did mean it! It was better than mine.... and now I have a small idea that I might ask to take but it isn't that big so in away it makes ideas grow and it also makes friendship stronger!!
The different techniques that I have learnt today is adding effects into my edit such as Blurs, Cross Dissolve and Contrast the Brightness. This was really exciting for me to learnt because I have been asking Mr Andrews for his help for a long time, but as you know the class has been very busy and there are a lot of people who need his help so I ask my fellow friends and crew about how to add these techniques in my edit and as graciously they obliged. Katie Manchester helped me with finding out how to do the blurs and adding more effects and Olivia Park showed me how to change the contrast of the background colour. So overall using these different techniques makes my edit much clearer and brighter!!
So the reason why my editing has been so slow is because of my small little hard-drive. Mr Andrews had said that it was it and I did believe him but when I came home today and I put my program on my other big hard-drive and I started using the Final Cut Pro program to start editing I found that the program runs so much faster and clearer than it did with my small little hard-drive. So now I'm running with a fast program and I'm sorting everything out and I'm under control with everything!
The footage that we watched was Olivia Park's version of our film. Her film was very good (I have to say)!! I was very surprised but I was surprised that she made it so good... if that makes sense!! :P
I took some of her ideas (but she doesn't know-I'm going to ask her) but this idea is only small! The editing was very good but I have to say there are some errors that are placed in her edit, like she doesn't have text (which I'm guessing that she's going to add them in later) and I sort of good lost with some of the sequences but eventually I caught up. But if I didn't understand the movie myself than I would defiantly get lost... but yeah. That's her edit and maybe I'll tell her my feedback but I guess the storyline is just like the rest of my crews work...
The best thing about having a great CM class is that I have gotten my friend back and that we are cool with everything! I'm so happy each CM class because soon we will be doing something that I love doing, and that's... Sound in Film! Or Music in Film! I love doing this because in my music class (last term) we did an assignment on composing with film. Which is composing a piece of music to a clip and for our test we had to watch different clips and figure out the different instruments playing, texture and everything relating to the elements of music to how it is represented in each film. So you can say I have a head start but I believe that it's a little different from what I did in music because we actually had to compose our music and for this we will just have to combine different beats and rhythm together and bomb you got your music.
Overall I am happy with the progress that I'm at now and I am nearly finish editing my footage and soon it will be ready to hand in!!

Reflection: 12/08/10
In this lesson today we are finishing off our edit. For me I am having trouble with editing my transitions into my film. I have my transition slides in but I'm not quiet sure if it's done correct or not, so I'm trying to ask Mr Andrews for his help but as their are other people who need his help more than I do than I will just have to wait again until the next time. This is the only thing I need to do because I have edited my clips together but I also I need to add titles into the film...
My edit is the same as the on that we showed in class because that was my own edit so actually I showed my edited to the class. The film that I edit in iMovie is much better version to the one from Final Cut because to be honest I can not handle using Final Cut and it's so frustrating in figuring out how to us Final Cut.
Also I have another problem an annoying warning box is always appearing on my screen saying that my hard-drive has small space and thus can not play some scenes that I want it to play... so overall FRUSTRATING!!!

Reflection: 6/08/10- Editing my Footage
2 days ago I had taken home a school laptop to finish my edit of my film. I had a few difficulties working out how to use Final cut because I'm quiet use to using iMovie, so I had to figured out different things with the program and to my great success I worked out and managed how to use this program after a nights work.
The difficulties that I had with the program lay within playing the clips. A message kept popping up saying something like, "It is slow because of hard-drive doesn't have enough memory and it's slow because..." of something. They also said something about RT which I have no idea what that means...
I also had difficulties figuring out how to crop the footage but in the end I managed how to do it but I took quiet a while to do it. Also I tried putting in the transitions in because you have to do this strange thing by adding in the next footage and then you had to click in the middle of both clips and than do to the transition button and choose your transition. I know that doesn't sound too hard but it is when you never used it for a long period of time. But overall using the program wasn't so hard, but there were some pot holes that I had trouble with but everything is almost done and all I need to do is add titles and more transitions...
I emailed Mr Andrews about the problems I had with the message popping up and I thought that I would be there for the next lesson but unfortunately I had to leave early because I was running a temp. So I haven't finished my editing (just yet) and I missed our last CM lesson which I really need help with my editing. So now I'm screwed!
1. I don't have a computer to finish off my editing
2. Don't have Mr Andrews help
3. It's due on Monday!!!

Reflections: 3/08/10
Today was the day when we had to make a To Do List of what we needed to do and what we've done. So far my group has done a far amount of work done, but we still need to finish off the EDL.
Today I was sorting out and covert my footage that I wanted in MY edit film. This didn't take a long time because I knew all ready what I wanted to do because it was similar with the actually rough edit we did as a group, but there are scenes that are added in that we filmed after we showed our rough edit to the class.
I had a few problems today. Firstly I had problems with working out how to use Final Cut Pro, because I'm really use to using iMovie but as the rest of my group and Mr Andrews had mentioned it would actually better if I choose to edit my film in Final Cut Pro (to my dismay). But he always mentioned that it would be better quality so I had to change once he said 'BETTER'.
So today I was just converting and picking throw the footage I wanted and having few bumps in the way as well...
