Reflections: 27/08/10- NEARLY Finished Soundtrack for Film!!

This weekend is a long weekend due to the Gold Coast Show, which I'm not interested in going because I have 5 assignments due these weeks coming up.
All day I have been doing my soundtrack for my film, which I have to say is all most finished, except for some few bits and pieces that need to be finished. I had a small problem with the soundtrack, which involves a 'song' from my iTunes and I'm not quiet sure if I am aloud to use it or not because with the genre of my film the song fits really well with the film.

First thing I did today was correct some of my loops, which sounded really off because it wasn't blinding in with the footage or other loops that I had chosen. I had a fun day looking through, all most every single loop that is used in GarageBand because I need to find the perfect loop to blind with Susie running to the Park because mostly every loop is happy and joyful, but I need something that was dark and deep and there were some that had the sound that I wanted but I had to mix other loops to blind in with that loop. Then I had to find if it was a the right key, tempo and beats. I had to do this because if you mix loops in together than the soundtrack will sound really off and strange and not in beat with each other. So that took mostly half the day to do it, but eventually I found the loops that I was looking for. The next scene was the beating up scene where I had to find something that was deep, dark, almost scary in away and a fast tempo beat sound. This was quiet easy (in away) because there was a lot of fast tempo sounds, but there wasn't too many deep and dark sounds that matched. For these two scenes I used various amount of instruments such as electronic instruments, drums and piano. I used the piano sound a lot and sometimes (I thought) used it too much with some footage. With using the piano loop a lot it made the film sound like it was a 'period' film or some kind of classical genre... which considering that it's like a mystery or a drama, it wouldn't have too many classical instruments in it... but in some genres with action, mystery and adventure, the classical instruments (e.g. string instruments and an orchestra) are used in their soundtracks. So as you might have noticed I've been doing this all day and I did it with other scenes as well.

I had a sticky spot and I didn't know what to do because I couldn't really bothered finding loops to match the footage so I went to the end, where I knew what I was doing. This is the song idea (which I don't know whither I'm a loud to do it or not) that I had thought of. I used the song by Coldplay: The Scientist. I love this song, because it has a very slow tempo and it's a very sad song of love, and loss and all sorts of things (I listen to this song when I'm in a down stage of my life D:) I choose this song because (as I said) it is a sad song about love and loss (I think)... but it blinded so well with the ending of the film. I can't parts of the song out because as this song goes for 5:11 and that's like how long my film is. So I can't the beginning and the end and blind them both together. I had to cut some parts in the beginning of the end so it would blind while with the beginning of the ending. So my ending sounds great, but all I need to do is wait for Mr Andrews to email me back saying whither or not I can use songs in my soundtrack... but I'm betting the answer would be NO because it's copyrighting the song if you don't ask the artist or the writers who played, sang or anyone who was involved with the song... so I'm guessing Mr Andrews emailing my back saying NO than.... That's all right (well there's nothing I can do or Mr A can do so it had to be all right), but I have to have a 2nd option in finding how to end my film... so I have to think about that.

All I need to do with my group is fix the recording of some dialogue. Because there are some dialogue that you can't hear or understand because of interruptions of the wind, boats, planes, random swearing at the beginning of the footage or random things happening. All these things I muted in my film because we really don't want these interruptions in our film... There are a lot of dialogue we need to record because on the 2nd day we filmed it was very windy and you couldn't hear anyone from outside.

I guess that doing CM soundtrack is done and I can cross it off my list, with doing reflections and putting extra tasks on my blog as well. For crossing off fewer tasks to do, the day when this film is due is coming to a close. :( This is the time when I start to cry because next year (out of my friends) I'm the only one doing CM and I don't know who's class I'll be in and I won't be with my friends in any of the classes next year so CM class will be so different without them and I'm going to miss that.... Someone just punched a hole through my heart just then. Every breathe and every memory that I hold from this year will be taken away and be put into a box labelled "Thousand Memories for Thousand Years Ago". This time next year, this moment will be just a blur and I won't even care about any of these because this is what the future is and in the future we don't give a crap about anything in the past because we live for the future....

TO DO LIST:

1. RECORD THE VOICE FOR THE FILM!!!
2. Check emails for using song in the film
